Read the Bible: Give God a chance to Speak to You!

Prayer is our communication with God. Reading the Bible and meditating of what we have read is a good way to listen to God speak back.

In 2014, a few friends and I embarked on this “adventure” of reading the Bible in 550 days (that is, over 18 months). We were a mixed bunch of people – Christians, non-Christians, atheists, agnostics and so on. But the end of that perseverance over 18 months we definitely reaped the benefits.

I am not speaking about a smooth ride in life, but having that mindset to face it all – I think the Bible and our little study group deserves a lot of credit. In that 18 months, I went through a lot of changes including changes at work, my marital status, my friendships and lots & lots of travel (yes – 6 continents – for real!). There were times I read the Bible and thought – “That is a brilliant idea. I gotta do this!”. And then there were times when I thought “That can’t be right. Maybe that was applicable in 607 BC, not now for sure!”… and Oh boy, how wrong was I!

The Bible has an answer for everything. It is a source of hope, comfort and encouragement. It is also a source of positive feedback to improve our lives.

All Scripture is inspired of God and beneficial

  • for teaching,
  • for reproving,
  • for setting things straight,
  • for disciplining in righteousness,

so that the man of God may be fully competent, completely equipped for every good work.

2 Timothy 3:16-17, New World Translation

Many times reading the Bible makes me feel guilty of something I should or should not have done. Initially, I hated that feeling. But I have come to the realisation that it is for the better. The Bible teaches and corrects us so that we have a better lifestyle pleasing in the eyes of God.

If you are new to reading the Bible, you can start with Proverbs – very easy, practical and useful. Or if you would like to join us on another journey of reading the entire Bible in 18 months, let me know in the comments below or on social media and I will add you to the group when we get started.
